About Our Ministries
As part of our dedication to lifting up others, reaching out to those in need, and spreading the good news of Christ's gospel, we participate in a number of different ministries. One of our current focuses is on seeing that those without can get some of the basic necessities of life-blood.
Food and outreach ministry:
We partnership with the Second Congregational Church on Main Street Douglas for outreach to our community. The People's Pantry ministers to over 90 families for food and household items. The Pantry is open twice weekly, every Tuesday afternoon from 3:00pm - 5:00pm and every Saturday morning from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Families are allowed to come and "shop" for their family needs.
The People's Pantry also provides Thanksgiving baskets to families who have need. This year, we had a "Giving Tree" where each family signed up with two wishes for each of their children to be provided by someone who took an "angel ornament." The two churches, as well some local businesses such as Webster First Credit Union and Curves of Uxbridge, made some wishes come true this Christmas.
The People's Pantry hosts a free community meal at Second Congregational Church on a monthly basis. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring a friend or two! Volunteers make the food, set up, serve, and clean up. If you would like to volunteer, RSVP for the dinner, or need more information, please call Brenda or Katie Roy (476-1880), or Jen Benoit (943-6394).
The People's Pantry has also provided for other needs, such as collecting and providing alterations for prom and formal wear.
The desire of the People's Pantry is to help reach out and meet the needs of our community with the love of Jesus always in our hearts.
Theater ministry:
We at First Church think the medium of theater is a great way to express eternal truths. We began by doing some skits at church. It was a lot of fun, and people responded with enthusiasm. We did a couple of one act plays; again, they seemed to communicate the message of Christ to people in a meaningful way.
In another positive aspect, we discovered some talented people in our community as well. To continue and expand the ministry, Jubilation Players was established. Our first production was a full length play, Under The Tree. It was performed at a local high school theater and was attended by several hundred people. We were able to give the proceeds to a local family. We are encouraged to use theater as a means of building the community and presenting meaningful dramas. We invite all who are interested to join us.
Home Groups:
Home Groups are special study sessions that are held in the homes of members of the Body of the congregation. Insights into the Bible, fellowship, and good, wholesome relationships are fostered. You're always invited to pass the time with us whenever you can. Contact the person in charge of each group to get times that work best for you.
